About Kutinya Arts

Kutinya Arts was established in 1998 from a commitment to preserve, develop, and present Zimbabwean marimba music through instrument making, education, and performance.

Our early work examined how the traditional school marimba could be developed to offer an extended musical range. Under the direction of founder Nicholas Manomano, Kutinya Arts developed extended marimba sets that enabled ensembles to perform richer harmonies and more varied musical arrangements. These developments have contributed to marimba teaching and performance in Zimbabwean schools and cultural institutions.

Instrument development became the foundation for a larger educational and cultural programme. Kutinya Arts has since provided specialist training, workshops, festivals, competitions, performances, and international programmes for learners, teachers, musicians, and institutions.

Nearly three decades after its establishment, Kutinya Arts continues to connect craftsmanship, musical education, performance, and cultural representation. Our purpose remains clear: to strengthen the practice of Zimbabwean marimba music, prepare future musicians and educators, and present this cultural tradition with integrity in Zimbabwe and internationally.
