Are marimbas failing to gain traction for professional marimba bands in Zimbabwe and the world over? Why are there not as many marimba bands as there are electric or other bands?

Despite a range of challenges amongst them, the African inferiority complex we still experience amongst some of our fellow Africans, marimbas are slowly gaining recognition, with talented players and innovative compositions expanding their repertoire. It's an exciting time for marimba enthusiasts as the instrument continues to evolve and find its place in modern music.

More workshops, festivals, get together programs and competitions will help popularizing marimba. Once teachers and students gain exposure, Marimbas will dominate

Thank you for your comment! While workshops, festivals, and competitions certainly have the potential to popularize the marimba, do you think they alone are enough to ensure its dominance? For instance, other factors such as media coverage, integration into mainstream music genres, and creating a demand for marimba bands in professional spaces might also play a significant role.

Could it be that the lack of a structured professional framework for marimba bands—such as promoters, or standardized training limits their growth compared to electric bands? What are your thoughts on how we can address these deeper systemic issues to ensure marimbas gain not just exposure but sustained popularity

Puting emphasis on using marimbas as learning media when teaching elements of music in the music classroom will go a long way in establishing the marimbas as an instrument of choice when learning and teaching music.

Hi Patience, do you believe the business sector is prepared to embrace a professional marimba band as a viable alternative for entertainment? Furthermore, can marimba bands be effectively promoted to rival well-established contemporary bands in the country

Are you suggesting that more programs and festivals for schools could potentially give promotion to the rise of professional marimba bands in the country.
